Mom and sled dogs

I’ve lived in Alaska for over twenty years. I love this state, the people, everything about it.

Today I treated my mom (74th birthday yesterday), E and I to an hour long dog sled ride. James with Martin Buser’s outfit, Happy Kennels, took extraordinary care making sure we were warm, comfortable and happy. The team was endearingly sweet natured. Bell, Ukelele, Fiddler, Mandolin, Cello, and the rest were joyful in their work. The trails around Big Lake were stunning. I’ve never seen my mom in such high spirits or so excited.

Scott chauffeured us and hung out at the tourist hall while we had our experience. He got to visit with the house dogs and Mr Buser.

We had an exhilarating day. The skies were that pale clear blue that makes you feel you could see all the way to Pluto. Mountains were a portrait in white and sharp edges. There was a bite in the wind yet the day was warm.

We had a very fine time indeed. E sang songs to the dogs and seemed lost in wonder. No pics. Left the phone behind so had to be content with taking mental snapshots along the way.

We had a brief visit with Aunt Linda and Uncle John, dinner at Cadillac Cafe (Pozole, yum!) then a song filled drive back into town. E and mom were wired so we had E run thru her repertoire.

Glad Stacye took care of the Cardis so we didn’t feel rushed.

E unraveled from the excitement of the day once we got home. I am grateful slumber claimed her quickly tonight. I’m finishing my bedtime tea with Roscoe curled in my lap and Allie at my side. Scott is unwinding with a lap full of Kate and Bing at his feet. Contentment settles over the house like snow on the winter garden. We are so very fortunate.
