Play kitchen

We are building a play kitchen for Elizabeth for Christmas.

We picked up a second hand kitchen cabinet and faucet from the Re-Store for $15, another $10 for glossy white enamel and pink spray paint. We built the top from scraps and will be able to finish out the rest from stuff in the garage. I even have a bit of plexi glass for an oven door. If we get very nutty we may wire an oven light.

She would like the knobs to click but that may exceed our abilities.

She was gleeful over this kitchen (already sold) at Value Village so we hope this one tickles her fancy when it is complete.

Double yolk

One of the pullets laid a double yolk egg. Quite exciting.

Good chickens!

Our partridge and white Chantecler hens began laying this week. I love pullet eggs – they are so tiny and perfect and cute.

We scrambled a bunch for dinner tonight.

Oh my!

She can pull her wagon out of the bedroom!

0.4 seconds. Wes was right again.

Facebook

We do not Facebook because we do not care for their privacy policies.

But David Jensen does, and he posted Bing and Kate on his page.

I have been enjoying watching the comments for their post and I have to admit I can understand the seduction of Facebook.

Joyful photos

We spent a lovely afternoon with David Jensen and Taylor, making family photos happen with Elizabeth, Bing and Kate.

We’ve appreciated David’s skill with a camera, humor, and empathy for dogs and humans alike for years now. We always enjoy time in his studio.

Today was Elizabeth’s fourth time being photographed by David and he really captured our beloved daughter. Here is a link – the first photo is to certain to be our favorite photo of the day:

Good, good hen

This is Little Girl. She is eight years old and was one of our first chicks (she was proceeded by a few adults earlier that year).

She is a food hound and learned early on to cluck endearingly to get a hand out. She is a wonderful broody hen and a very good mama. She still rules the roost, too.

She is a Partridge Chantecler (originally known as an Albertan in Canada but Americans had to mess with the name – nothing to do with Brother Wilfred’s white Chanteclers) and quite winter hardy. Note the minuscule comb and wattle.

She came inside tonight for a nail trim. We fed her some banana. She is very gentle with her beak and took the banana off Elizabeth’s open palm without frightening her.

When she saw the banana she made a pleased chuckling sound.

I love this chicken. She is so very cool.
