Linguistics map

This was an amusing survey that actually had a scientific foundation.

You’re asked a series of questions about what you call particular things. You know – that tiny lobster like thing in fresh water is a what? A road that parallels the highway is known as what?

And many more, some of which had me scratching my head. What does it mean, if anything that I called sow bugs ‘roly-polies’ as a child but now call them pill bugs?

Fun.

The craw dad answer put me squarely in Santa Rosa, pretty solid I thought.

Sledding

We went sledding for half an hour this afternoon.

Elizabeth was having a great time until mama decided to get funny and dive out of the way.

Hot chocolate and home to a dinner of Langshan rooster we slaughtered in October.

Here’s the YouTube of the last run.

A hit

Yay! She played with the kitchen all day long. We had a lovely Christmas with family and a couple of good friends. It was a truly wonderful day with good company, entertaining conversation, delicious food, and little stress.

Scott outdid himself in the kitchen. At the critical juncture when all the cooking stuff was coming to a head I needed to abandon Scott so I could nurse EKA and put her down for a much needed nap. Scott pulled off great stuffing, super cranberry sauce, and a fabulous turkey with perfectly mahogany skin and tender juiciness.

Everyone helped with cooking and clean up.

A fine time was had by all.
