Tried baking thick sliced ranch bacon from Mr. Prime Beef.
Success!
Summer is winding down. Rain and more rain. The chicks are chickens. Jo’s took quite a few so we don’t exceed our legal limit. We’ve kept 4 white and 3 partridge Chantecler as well as a single buff Cornish. I haven’t figured out the roosters yet.
Elizabeth’s bunny thrives. He gets to run around the yard regularly and it’s comical watching the chickens scatter panicked and bewildered before him.
Elizabeth continues to grow her vocabulary. She’s used her potty chair several times – we will be in diapers awhile yet.
Maclaren was wonderful and will get its own post, eventually.
Elizabeth likes the tiny board books that are sized for baby hands. We will often keep one in her crib as she happily ‘reads’ in the mornings if she wakes before us.
When she went to bed at 8 last night her book was near her feet. I poked my nose in just before I went to bed. She was fast asleep with the book tucked under her hand.
That’s my good reading girl.
Here is another one of her ‘reading’ Sunday afternoon in the pop-up, before her nap.
Great day at the Palmer dog show today. Kate earned her 3rd Rally Novice leg. She took 2nd place at 96/100. Very nice improvement over her first two legs which were qualifiers by the skin of her teeth. Some new to is exercises were present so I was nervous going in. we hadn’t practiced for awhile much less new stuff. She was awesome. Her full name with the new title is CH Wales Tails Kiss Me Kate RN, PT.
Bing earned his 2nd leg in Beginner Novice with a 186/200. I was very proud of him. He was unphased when the judge touched him and gave me a gorgeous recall. He held his stay despite being worried about a nearby Rottweiler.
EKA and Scott had a good time too. EKA enjoyed running around in the grass barefooted.
White Chantecler rooster hatched at Sandhill Preservation in early June 2013
He’s a bit worried looking. He may be thinking ‘This does not bode well’
But he is traveling to a new home where he’ll get to have a flock of hens and (hopefully) lots of nookie!
We visited the ducks and gulls at Westchester lagoon tonight.
Elizabeth took a couple tumbles in her exuberance (including one with the dreaded moment of silence preceding the wail).
She got her first skinned knee. Little tiny scrape. She had so much fun charging around and looking at all the birds. Her favorite is definitely the seagull.
Elizabeth and bunny are very very good pals. It lets her pet it. Also reared up and put its paws on her hips as she was standing. Circled her legs like a cat. Didn’t give me much more than a sniff and an ear flip. I’ve never known such a calm delightful bunny
Of course, Elizabeth has long been a fan of bunnies. Witness her favorite crib friend, the pink bunny from Uncle John and Aunt Linda.
